SOWK 300 Communicating Findings:
Set- up a Ning Web site for social networking
Post the link to your ning page in the comments box in blackboard so that I may enter your grade!
- Sign up to http://sowk300.ning.com/
- Do not use dark colors for your ning page.
- Add your Xtranormal video (embed it into your main page)
- Add your e-portfolio link
- Submit in Blackboard for grading a working link to your social networking site by the deadline posted in the course calendar.
- Minimum requirements of your site
- You must have a minimum of 10 people to join your site (remember there are at least 30 people enrolled in both sections of the course – you can have other folks from outside of the course to join.) Everyone from your class section must sign up . For Example: if you are enrolled on SOWK.300.01 then all your classmates must join your site. This will help you get to know your classmates.
- Provide links to at least 3 non-profit websites related to the topic you selected.
- On your main page there should be a statement (that you researched on your own as to why social networking sites are important – what role or place do they have in society - min 300 words)
- Include a statement about yourself (min 300 words) .
- Why you selected the major that you did
- why you selected Tuskegee, etc…(min 300 words)
- Add at least one element either music, video, photos or all 3 if you wish – keep it G rated!
- List line to at least 3 non-profit websites which focus on social issues
Social-networking sites have a bad reputation as places where people get together for no reason other than to collect friends and update their profiles obsessively, using terrible background images and embedded videos.
BUT...Social networks can be used to shine a bright light on individuals, corporations and the change agents who are working for the greater good. To inspire people to get involved, to reveal and help people understand the relationship between charity and community, to educate people about how to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and impassion them to TAKE ACTION; to give them a technology platform to enable that action.
If your link does not work you will earn a grade of zero for the assignment.

Other Comments:
This was a difficult assignment.
ReplyDeletei really don't know what this website has to offer but i am willing to learn more about it.
ReplyDeleteThis hasn't been my favorite assignment but I'm sure I'll get use to it over time. Being able to view videos from other social workers and get to read more about them will make this site a little more interesting to use however.
ReplyDeleteThis site was a little tedious. I am hesitant to post so much information about myself on the internet. Granted, I do have my own personal social networking site, I feel that even on this page I try to keep all my info limited at best. Yet, beyond that it was not too difficult a task, I hope people are responsive to the friend requests I sent out. According to the instructions we will need at least 10 friends, so hopefully people hit me back I’ll add you if you add me I also wonder if when we finish this class if we these accounts can/will be deleted. I see a lot of people who are on the site but have already graduated so, I am wondering if they were unable to remove their page or if they just forgot it was still up. All in all, I do think it its interesting and cool we as a class have pages and access to one another, it adds a certain element to the experience.
