#1 Setting up your Gmail Account
Set up a google docs account and learn how to share your documents. You will use your google documents account to write documents, spreadsheets, power point presentations and PDF’s. Due to the number of computer viruses, etc. this is the best way to get your documents to me. Documents that are submitted via Blackboard that do not open will receive a grade of zero or F.
Submit the assignment on or before the deadline in your course calendar.

Instructions
1. Create a Gmail account with a photo (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - if your photo does not appear you will not earn credit for this assignment)
2. Send me an mail me at sowk300@gmail.com
3. In the body of your email include your name, course section, major AND expected date of graduation. Please do not include personal information or your life story (that will be required in a future task for this class).
The purpose of this task is to ensure that I have your correct email address and you have my correct email address - should you have questions throughout the semester.
Please note! One of the most difficult skills for this course is managing your time.

I think everyone should use g mail. Its really easy to manage and it keeps you connected to other sites (i.e. Youtube). I didn't realize you could do so much with gmail, google docs, etc. The technology was extremely easy to use. Everything I was supposed to do was clear. I would tell other students that this is extremely useful. I like how you can manage all your work through google. There wasn't anything to not like, except the capatcha thing after this post.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Khiry, G-Mail is "on point"! It's easy to use and it's becoming more standard than other servers such as yahoo and hotmail. Let me not "flex" however, I still have my hotmail and yahoo accounts, but more for nostalgia than function. I use gmail personally, but for this class I created a specific account to keep my better organized :)!
ReplyDeleteI have always been a fan of G-mail. It is extremely easy to use and easy to comprehend. This assignment was very interesting seeing that I never knew how to use Google docs. I now know how and I can say that the instructions are clear and everything was simple. I would recommend this to other students. The thing I liked most was that it was so simple to use. There really is not anything to dislike. It's easy, simple, and a great way to keep everything organized like Lindsey said.
ReplyDeleteI have always had an G-mail account, but never really used it unless it was for school. Using G-mail is very convenient, and setting up my account was not hard at all. What I did learn was how to upload my picture to my account. The assignment was very clear to me and i enjoyed doing it. Yes, I would recommend using Google docs, the best thing is using Google while in your email account. There was not anything that I just did not like.
ReplyDeleteG-mail has been my best friend throughout my high school and collegiate years so far. Like my colleague Lindsey stated above, it's easy to use and by far the most manageable compared to other email servers. I have never used google docs before so the instructions given were very clear and helpful and i would recommend the use of google docs for other professional use as well. Honestly, I can't really pin point anything that i dislike about gmail. I set up my own social work 300 gmail account just to keep things in order and separate from the variety of emails i receive already.
ReplyDeleteMs. McArthur g-mail is a great way to stay in contact with each student. Working outside of the class room through gmail will be most efficent. Personally my comments about posting after every assignment will allow me to express my opinion or questions. Being in college working with this type of technology is very useful for students. Its evident that having access to gmail will improve the communication level tremendously. All students should be advised to use this method.
ReplyDeleteIve always used gmail so I believe that it is the only program that should be used for submitting emails. The reason I say this is because of the many components it contains. This is assignment was a very short assignment and I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeletei feel that Google will make thing easier for us as students and teach us how to use these different tools. This also makes it easier for the class to communicate with one another. As stated earlier this course will require good time management.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely would prefer google over any other email account. Its very explainable and easy to use. Now i do have yahoo still but i rarely get on there for personal reasons. I just feel we should all stick with gmail.
ReplyDeleteCreating a Gmail account is a fairly simple task. I have several other email accounts; however, my primary email is the mytu Google account. I have grown accustomed to utilizing Google and its multi-benefits. I used Google Docs in high school, so I am quite familiar with this feature. I like the idea of uploading user photos in order to place faces with names; as a result, I will upload a picture to my other accounts.
ReplyDeleteUsing Gmail is very easy manage. This task is useful to not only students but also for people who have to deliver different types of messages throughout the day. This assignment has helped me because I haven't explored Gmail in depth since I created my account, which was about 2 years ago. It was only used as a service on my phone and I only checked my emails. Now I see that there is so much more to it and I love it. I would be lying if I said I did not like this assignment. ReplyDeleteI am very interested in having a gmail account verse having any other account. This is very helpful because all my mail comes to my phone with this account. I was never interested in a gmail account until last school year. I think I could use this account to anything I want without logging into my computer because I already have an account on my phone.The assignments are quick, simple, and easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteCreating a Gmail account was relatively easy. However, I feel that will be easier to reach me via my mytu account. Google is beneficial period; mainly because it has various features that are available.Some of the features include Gmail, Google docs,calendar, etc. Although, I have never used Google docs, I do not feel that it will be a hard task. Actually, before attending college I was never interested in Google aside from its search engine. Now that I have started it has become more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis my first time creating my own G Mail account. I usually just use the one the school gave me but I really didn't use it to it's full potential until recently for class and work. I think I would prefer Google over any other account.
ReplyDeleteI had ended up creating three Google accounts for this assignment :) Forgot a username, then got my account locked, then found success! So perseverance is key! I am glad I got it done. Here is the comment made from the account I lost the password too! “I agree with Khiry, G-Mail is "on point"! ReplyDeleteBeing is that I have and love my google gmail account, I found that this task was the easiest by far. I love the applications and the experiences I have through the gmail network. I think it is the best electronical ail service out there. I feel that gmail will certainly help me stay in touch with classmates as well as the instructor throughout the course of this semester. I look forward to keeping in touch.
ReplyDeleteI have always enjoyed using google both as a search engine and for my mail. This is defu-inately a great way to stay informed with peers and Lectures alike. Great application, easily accessible and links perfectly easy to most if not all other application. G-Mail, the way to go.

ReplyDeleteI prefer gmail to any other email, and google's Blackle.com is my search engine of choice. I've created a folder for this class so I can stay focused and organized. Thanks to google docs, circles, and the recent additions to google drive we can stay connected in a comfortable format. This excites me!
ReplyDeleteThis assignment was helpful in two important ways. 1st it gave everyone who didnt have an email a reason to make one, and the second thing this assignment did was that it gave people a chance to familiarize themselves with google's electronic mailing system. By completing this assignment i have learned that google's electronic mailing system (g-mail) has multiple fuctions. Just like yahoo, hotmail, and other mail carriers, G-mail sends mail virtually from one recipient to another, however unlike the other mail carriers a persosn can construct word documents, create slide presentations, construct various tables and graphs, make spreadsheets, and share these various documents with others without necessarily mailing the document to another person. Gmaill is easy to use, the links associated with G-mail are pretty much self explanatory, the more complex links on the website are usually equipped with instructions to keep the person on the site from getting confused. This assignment was fairly clear, however the i was a little confused on whether i should post my comment on this page or the discussion board on Blackboard. I would advise anyone who is taking this class in the future to get clarity on the assignment so that you compltetly understand what you are doing.
